This series of online community meet-ups is designed to bring the AOT community together, no matter where you are in the world!

Each meeting begins with a 15-minute Tech Byte spotlight talk from a featured speaker. After the talk, we hold a networking session with small breakout groups, providing an opportunity to connect with peers across the global ocean technology community!

 We heard from Lizzie Murray and Jethan d’Hotman on their work at A Liquid Future. Lizzie Murray is the founder of A Liquid Future and Surfer Scientists, initiatives dedicated to democratizing ocean science and access by empowering surfers and coastal communities to collect and contribute coastal data. Jethan d’Hotman is a Senior Technician with the South African Polar Research Infrastructure (SAPRI), specializing in oceanographic instrumentation and field operations ​

 We heard from National Geographic Explorer Titus Cañete for a dive into how locally driven innovation is transforming deep-sea research in the Philippines. As the program manager for the Deep Sea Shark Research and Conservation Project at Large Marine Vertebrates Research Institute Philippines (LAMAVE), Titus will share his team’s work on deep-sea shark fisheries and their development of accessible ocean technologies built to advance their research.  ​

We heard from Zack Johnson at Sofar Ocean & Bristlemouth! Zack leads developer relations at Bristlemouth, an open communication standard for marine hardware. At Sofar Ocean Technologies, he heads field operations and works as a sales and support engineer. His career bridges open-source hardware, citizen science, and ocean technology.
